The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has called on Pakistan to reconsider their decision to boycott the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup match against India, scheduled for February 15. This appeal follows discussions held in Lahore with representatives from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Pakistan’s decision to withdraw from the match was announced after the ICC replaced Bangladesh with Scotland in the tournament. This change came about due to Bangladesh’s unwillingness to travel to India, where the matches are set to be co-hosted.
In a recent statement, the ICC confirmed that there would be no sporting, financial, or administrative penalties levied against Bangladesh for their decision to abstain from playing in India. Additionally, the ICC has indicated that Bangladesh will be granted the opportunity to host an ICC event prior to the 50-over World Cup of 2031, which will be jointly hosted by India and Bangladesh.
Mohammad Aminul Islam, the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support during this challenging time. He emphasized that playing the match against India on February 15 would greatly benefit the cricketing community.
Despite Pakistan’s decision, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav announced that his team remains committed to traveling to Colombo for the scheduled match, highlighting the importance of the event for both teams.
