Djokovic Steps Down from Tennis Association Amid Transparency Issues

Novak Djokovic has announced his decision to completely withdraw from the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA), citing concerns regarding transparency and governance within the organization. This announcement was made on social media platform X.

Djokovic, who co-founded the PTPA with Vasek Pospisil in 2020, aimed to enhance player representation in tennis. However, he expressed that his vision and values no longer align with the current direction of the association. He emphasized that he would now focus on his tennis career and family.

The PTPA has been involved in legal actions against the sport’s governing bodies, including the ATP, WTA, International Tennis Federation, and the International Tennis Integrity Agency. These legal proceedings, initiated in March, accuse the organizations of anti-competitive practices and failing to protect player well-being. In September, the organisiers of the four Grand Slam tournaments were also included in the lawsuit.

Despite the ongoing legal challenges, Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, indicated that he disagreed with some aspects of the lawsuit. Both the ATP and WTA have refuted the allegations put forth by the PTPA.

In November, the PTPA announced that it was nearing a deal with Tennis Australia, as preparations are underway for the Australian Open set to commence on January 18 in Melbourne, marking the start of the new Grand Slam season.
