Imran Khan, known for his roles in romantic comedies, has recently returned to the film industry after a decade-long break. In a candid interview, he reflected on several missed opportunities early in his career that shaped his journey in Bollywood.
The actor disclosed that he auditioned for significant roles in films like Delhi 6 and Chennai Express, which ultimately went to other actors. Imran specifically mentioned an audition for Delhi 6 in 2006-2007, before his breakthrough in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Naa. He expressed disappointment about not landing the lead role, stating that producers were hesitant to invest in an untested actor at that time.
Imran revealed a personal connection to Delhi 6, as he identified with the story of an American boy of Indian origin navigating cultural complexities in India. He remarked, “I was born in the States and grew up as a child of two worlds, so I connected with the character.” Despite his initial disappointment, he appreciates how the film has resonated over time, emphasizing its lasting impact.
In addition, he touched upon Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, a project he was excited about but later lost due to the underperformance of his previous film, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. He referenced how he was dropped from that film, noting, “It was out of my hands.” He praised the film’s uniqueness and originality, recognizing the creative risks taken by its makers.
Imran also recounted an early encounter with filmmaker Rohit Shetty, who approached him for the hit film Chennai Express. After discussing the project, both parties acknowledged that it wasn’t the right fit creatively. The role was ultimately played by Shah Rukh Khan, a decision Imran respected, stating, “I don’t think I could top Shah Rukh.”
Throughout his journey, Imran Khan has faced both setbacks and opportunities. His debut in 2008 with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Naa marked the beginning of a successful career in romantic comedies and action films. As he returns to the screen, Imran’s reflections on his missed opportunities show a thoughtful perspective on the complexities of the film industry and his evolving identity as an actor.
