England Captain Stokes Calls Pakistan Whitewash a Remarkable Achievement

England’s recent 3-0 series victory over Pakistan marks a significant achievement in Test cricket, according to captain Ben Stokes. The team capped off their success by chasing down the 55 runs needed for an eight-wicket win in the third Test, complementing earlier victories by 74 and 26 runs in Rawalpindi and Multan.

Stokes expressed that the magnitude of the accomplishment may take time to fully register. He noted, “It won’t really sink in until we get home or in the new year.” This series whitewash is only the second one for England in the subcontinent, the first being against Sri Lanka in 2018. Stokes remarked on the challenges of playing in such conditions, calling it “one of the hardest places to do it.”

The series win validated England’s bold approach to cricket under the management of head coach Brendon McCullum, known as “Bazball.” With this victory, Stokes’s side has now won nine of their last ten Test matches, a remarkable turnaround from their previous struggles, including a disappointing 4-0 defeat in the Ashes.

In discussing his players, Stokes highlighted their contributions and the team’s cohesive environment, stating that everyone involved had played a crucial role throughout the series. He was particularly impressed by young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, who, at just 18 years and 128 days, became England’s youngest Test player and the youngest cricketer in history to take five wickets on debut. Stokes praised Ahmed’s cricketing intellect and encouraged his further development.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam has reaffirmed his commitment to lead despite the historical 3-0 whitewash at home. He regards the captaincy as an honor and stated that he intends to continue in the role. Azam acknowledged the disappointment of the series outcome and emphasized the need for players to execute the strategies laid out by the coaching staff.

This defeat also marks a troubling trend for Pakistan, as it is their first time losing four Tests consecutively. He noted the unfortunate absence of key bowlers due to injury, which affected the team’s performance. Azam expressed confidence in the squad’s potential to bounce back, indicating that upcoming matches could provide a chance for recovery.

Looking ahead, Pakistan will face New Zealand in a two-Test series, beginning in Karachi on December 26. This matchup offers an opportunity for resurgent performance following the recent challenges faced by the team.

In the summary of the final Test match, England defeated Pakistan by eight wickets. The match details included Pakistan’s first innings score of 304, England’s first innings score of 354, and Pakistan’s second innings total of 216, leading to a target of 167 runs. England’s second innings concluded at 170 for 2, with notable contributions from Ben Duckett and Ben Stokes.
