Jebel Ali Racecourse wrapped up its 2025 season with a dynamic day of racing that highlighted unexpected wins, impressive performances, and a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. The final event showcased a competitive seven-race card, featuring two prominent races: the Glorious Saturday Stakes and the New Year Fest Stakes.
The meeting was marked by two standout figures—jockey Conor Beasley and esteemed UAE trainer Doug Watson—who each secured two wins, reaffirming their ongoing significance in the local racing scene. This latest event not only entertained attendees but also strengthened the venue’s reputation as a community-focused racing destination.
Jebel Ali plays a unique role in UAE horse racing, standing out among the five racecourses in the country. Its relaxed atmosphere, uphill dirt track, and open viewing areas have garnered a dedicated following. The venue serves as an important testing ground for trainers, jockeys, and horses seeking to make their mark outside the spotlight of the main racecourse at Meydan.
The Glorious Saturday Stakes featured a major surprise when Kafoo clinched victory against expectations. The seven-year-old horse, a son of the 2008 Dubai World Cup champion Curlin, surged up the inside rail to outpace The Camden Kid, while the favorite, Telemark, finished third after a late rally on the outside. Kafoo’s win was remarkable not only for the race but also for his journey—having changed trainers three times since 2021, he now appears to be thriving under the guidance of Julio Olascoaga.
Conor Beasley, known for his reliability, rode Kafoo to victory. Reflecting on the race, he noted the importance of the drop in distance, which allowed Kafoo to excel. “He was a dominant winner halfway up the hill,” Beasley stated, praising the training involved. He also shared insights about his overall season, expressing optimism for the future despite a steadier-than-expected pace.
Another highlight of the day was the New Year Fest Stakes, where Truth Explained showcased a dominant performance, winning by four and a half lengths. Ridden by experienced Panamanian jockey Oscar Chavez, Truth Explained’s victory for trainer Doug Watson underscored a strong showing. Chavez discussed the horse’s previous challenges, describing how a favorable race at Jebel Ali contributed to the performance.
Furthermore, champion trainers Musabbeh Al Mheiri and Bhupat Seemar continued their successful streak. Al Mheiri started the day with a win from Sirocco Winds in the Al Shafar Investment Handicap, while Seemar capped the event with a victory from Elusive Trevor in the Al Redha Insurance Stakes.
As the 2025 racing season concludes, Jebel Ali once again proves that exceptional racing can thrive without the grandeur of the largest venues, emphasizing the significance of good horses, skilled trainers, and a vibrant atmosphere.
