Australia’s all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his decision to skip the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions in Abu Dhabi, marking the end of a notable 13-season career in this renowned T20 league.
Maxwell was previously acquired by Punjab Kings for 42 million rupees (approximately $467,000) for the last season. However, his performance did not meet expectations, as he concluded the season with only 48 runs and four wickets over seven matches. Subsequently, he was released by the franchise in November.
Reflecting on his long tenure in the IPL, Maxwell acknowledged its significant impact on his development as both a cricketer and a person. In a statement shared on Instagram, he expressed, “It’s a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me.”
He highlighted the invaluable experiences he gained, playing alongside world-class teammates and representing remarkable franchises. Maxwell noted that the vibrant atmosphere and passionate fans of India will remain etched in his memory.
In addition to Maxwell’s announcement, other notable players, such as Faf du Plessis and Andre Russell, have also opted out of the 2026 IPL season. Du Plessis plans to participate in the Pakistan Super League, while Russell has taken a role within the coaching staff of Kolkata Knight Riders.
The IPL auctions for 2026 are scheduled to occur on December 16, paving the way for teams to finalize their rosters for the next season.
