Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, the son of celebrated filmmaker Ramanand Sagar, passed away on February 13, 2026, in Mumbai at the age of 84. The Sagar family released a heartfelt statement honoring Anand, describing him as “a man of warmth, dignity, and values.”

The family’s announcement expressed their deep sorrow at his passing and highlighted Anand’s legacy. It noted, “Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, who passed away peacefully today, was part of the second generation managing Sagar Arts.” His kindness and gentle spirit left a significant impact on those around him, and he will be remembered fondly by friends and family alike.

Anand’s final rites took place on the same day in Mumbai at the Hindu Smashan Bhumi. Various esteemed personalities, including filmmaker Ramesh Sippy and actress Bhagyashree, attended the funeral service to pay their respects.

Anand was one of five children born to Ramanand and Leelavati Sagar, playing a vital role in the family’s production company, Sagar Arts. He was involved in directing and producing numerous projects, notably the 2008 remake of the iconic television series Ramayan. His contribution extended to popular shows such as Alif Laila, which aired in 1993.

Beyond television, Anand collaborated on the film Armaan, which featured the well-known song “Ramba Ho Ho Ho.” Working alongside his father, he co-produced the original Ramayan series that aired from 1987 to 1988, a pivotal show that adapted the stories from Valmiki’s and Tulsidas’ works. The series starred prominent actors like Arun Govil, Dipika Chikhlia, Sunil Lahri, and Dara Singh.

Anand is survived by his wife Nisha, children Shakti, Gauri, Amar, and daughter-in-law Vaishali, as well as grandchildren Aanya and Arjun. His passing follows the recent death of his brother, Prem Sagar, a producer and cinematographer in the television industry. The family noted he had faced health challenges prior to his passing, ultimately succumbing to illness at a Mumbai hospital.
