James Yeomans showcased exceptional skill and composure at Emirates Golf Club, securing his first Men’s Club Championship title on February 21. Competing against 80 golfers on the demanding Faldo and Majlis courses, Yeomans finished strong with a total score of 146 (+2), narrowly defeating Ross Jones and a cadre of talented players in a gripping 36-hole stroke play event.
In his opening round on the Faldo Course, Yeomans faced early challenges, including a double bogey on the eighth hole. However, he managed to balance his score with twelve pars and two birdies. His performance on the Majlis Course was outstanding, where he maintained a level par on the front nine and finished one under on the back nine, concluding with back-to-back birdies on the last two holes to clinch victory.
Ross Jones claimed the runner-up position with a total score of 149 (+5). Despite starting with four bogeys in a row, he rebounded admirably, registering birdies on the tenth and twelfth holes. His final round on the Majlis featured three birdies and a consistent series of pars, securing his second-place finish.
Sanjay Dhandsa and Raghav Malik both finished with scores of 150 (+6), with Dhandsa taking third place due to a stronger second round. Defending champion Pontus Fredriksson rounded out the top five with a score of 151 (+7).
In the Net category, Arda Obuz achieved the Best Net Round 1 with a remarkable net 63 (-9) on the Faldo Course, highlighted by two consecutive net eagles on holes five and six. Round 2’s Best Net was awarded to Arjun Manghnani, who recorded a net 70 (-2) on the Majlis, including birdies on the third, thirteenth, and seventeenth holes.
The tournament also recognized the best gross scores. Ethan Alan led Round 1 with a score of 72 (E), while Zach Gould topped Round 2 with a score of 76 (+4), showcasing the depth of golfing talent present.
Winners in various divisions were noted as well, with Ewan Cameron finishing on top of Division A (Handicap Index 5.1 and below) with a net score of 143 (-1). Rakesh Shah was the runner-up with a score of 147 (+3). In Division B (Handicap Index 5.2 and above), Tirth Shergill emerged victorious with a net score of 137 (-7), while Deepak Nicholas followed in second with a score of 144 (E).
Club Captain Scott Campbell praised Yeomans for his impressive performance and commended the high standards of play demonstrated by all participants throughout the tournament.
Emirates Golf Club, renowned for hosting the DP World Tour’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic, continues to be a premier venue for golf, offering challenging courses and an exceptional backdrop that enhances the golfing experience. The club is also notable for being the only venue in the region with an 18-hole night golf option on the Faldo Course.
