Dhurandhar, a recent blockbuster featuring Ranveer Singh, has made headlines with its impressive box office performance. As of now, the film has grossed over ₹600 crore globally, all while operating on a budget of ₹140 crore. This success raises the question: Is Dhurandhar the biggest hit of 2025?
The film has exceeded expectations with substantial collections, particularly in its second week. Dhurandhar clocked in a worldwide gross of ₹319 crore by the end of its first week. The momentum continued, allowing it to surpass the ₹400 crore and ₹500 crore milestones effortlessly. After just 12 days of release, the movie has now crossed ₹639 crore, positioning it as the third-highest-grossing Indian film of the year, trailing behind two other significant releases, Kantara Chapter One at ₹851 crore and Chhaava at ₹808 crore.
When examining profitability, Dhurandhar has already achieved net earnings nearing ₹500 crore. With a production cost of approximately ₹140 crore, the film boasts a remarkable profit margin of 250-260%. However, it currently lags behind Chhaava and Kantara Chapter One in this regard. Chhaava enjoyed net earnings of about ₹650 crore from a ₹125 crore budget, resulting in a profit of 420%. Meanwhile, Kantara Chapter One accrued net earnings of ₹680 crore on a budget of ₹150 crore, equating to a 350% profit margin. To surpass Chhaava, Dhurandhar would need to achieve net earnings exceeding ₹725 crore, translating to a global gross of over ₹950 crore.
Interestingly, while Dhurandhar has made a significant impact in the box office arena, it will not be able to claim the title of the most profitable Indian film of 2025. That accolade belongs to the unexpectedly successful Gujarati film Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayte. With a modest budget of just ₹50 lakh, Laalo has grossed an astonishing ₹111 crore and netted over ₹85 crore, resulting in an extraordinary profit margin of 17,000%. To surpass this record, Dhurandhar would need to generate an unreal ₹24,000 crore gross, far beyond the highest-grossing films globally.
Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, is a spy thriller that showcases Ranveer Singh in the role of Hamza, an Indian operative infiltrating criminal networks in Karachi. The film also features notable performances from Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan, contributing to its appeal and success.
As the film continues to attract audiences, it remains to be seen whether it will reach new heights and secure its place in the annals of Indian cinema history as the top hit of 2025.
