Malan Excited to Make Sharjah His Home in DP World ILT20

Dawid Malan, the England batsman, is set to participate in the inaugural DP World ILT20 tournament with the Sharjah Warriors. Scheduled from January 13 to February 12, 2023, the tournament promises to showcase some thrilling cricketing action.

Moeen Ali, another English cricketer, will lead the Sharjah Warriors team, with former national team assistant coach Paul Farbrace mentoring the side. Malan recently returned from the ICC World T20, where he was part of the victorious England team despite missing the latter part of the tournament due to a groin injury.

In an interview, Malan shared his enthusiasm for playing at such a historic venue, stating he is eager to begin the ILT20 and take advantage of the world-class facilities in Sharjah. He expressed that being part of a team associated with a renowned cricketing location is a significant opportunity.

Playing under Moeen Ali’s captaincy is something Malan looks forward to. He emphasized the comfort of sharing the field with familiar teammates, allowing players to express themselves freely. This team dynamic can foster an enjoyable and productive atmosphere.

Reflecting on his T20 performance in 2022, Malan remarked that age and experience have contributed to his growth as a player. He noted that embracing failures has made him a better athlete. His hope is to translate this experience into contributions for the Sharjah Warriors, aspiring to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament.

Having played multiple matches in the UAE, including two T20 internationals in Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, Malan assessed the venues positively. He acknowledged the quality of the pitches, noting that while they start hard and favorable for batting, they can become slower as the tournament progresses. Adapting to these shifting conditions is a constant challenge in franchise cricket.

As the ILT20 approaches, Malan noted the excitement surrounding the league. The UAE’s facilities and reputation as a neutral ground for international cricket make it an ideal location for this tournament. With the presence of numerous cricketing superstars, he believes this league can bring an added dimension to the cricketing experience there. Malan expressed hope that the tournament would generate cheer among cricket fans and provide a thrilling spectacle for supporters.
