Pakistan Excludes Babar Azam from ODI Series Against Bangladesh

Bollywood has recently been abuzz with discussions regarding work-life balance for actors, particularly surrounding the demands of Deepika Padukone. After her withdrawal from key projects, the conversation has taken a sharper focus on the realities of working hours in the film industry, especially for those juggling parenthood.

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ananya Panday have stepped forward to support Padukone’s request for an eight-hour work shift. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Kapoor emphasized the importance of clear communication between actors and producers during pre-production discussions. She recalled her own experience while filming “The Buckingham Murders,” highlighting how she informed the production team about her need to return home to her children in London.

Kapoor further elaborated that having a supportive partner, like Saif Ali Khan, is crucial for actors who are also parents. She pointed out that balancing personal and professional responsibilities might require sacrifices, including declining certain roles. The actress firmly believes that it’s essential for actors to express their availability and constraints upfront to avoid misunderstandings.

In addition to Kapoor’s insights, actress Kalyani Priyadarshan shared a glimpse into industry trends, explaining how the Malayalam film industry once operated under 16-hour shifts, which have now been shortened to 12. She commented on the complexity of film schedules, asserting that limiting working hours to six is impractical given the creative demands.

Ananya Panday echoed these sentiments, asserting that Padukone’s shift request reflects a necessary balance for new mothers. She shared her perspective from working closely with Padukone, noting the absence of such demands before the latter became a mother. For Panday, the early years of a child’s life merit special consideration, and she advocates for open discussions about suitable working arrangements with producers.

The context of Padukone’s demands emerged after she exited the film “Spirit” in May 2025, where she purportedly requested a profit share and an eight-hour workday. This request reportedly created tensions with the film’s director, leading to her being replaced.

Later that year, the situation escalated when it was announced that Padukone would also not reprise her role in the sequel of “Kalki 2898 AD.” Speculation suggested that her decision was influenced by requests for a pay rise, accommodations for her team, and her outlined work hours. These developments sparked a broader debate within the industry about the necessity for established work hours in filmmaking.

In November, Padukone addressed the rationale behind her call for an eight-hour shift during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar India. She underscored the need for better workplace support for new mothers, arguing that such a shift aligns with both mental and physical well-being and advocating for the normalization of bringing children to film sets. The evolving dialogue on this topic suggests a potential shift in how the film industry accommodates the diverse needs of its workforce.
