Filmmaker Shakun Batra, recognized for his work in films like “Kapoor & Sons” and “Gehraiyaan,” has recently expanded his creative horizons by launching an AI division at his storytelling studio, Jouska Films. A video aimed at demonstrating the correct pronunciation of the studio’s name has garnered significant attention online, with many applauding its innovative approach to using artificial intelligence.
On his Instagram page, Batra shared a visually engaging AI-generated video that creatively illustrates how to pronounce “Jouska.” The clip features people floating mid-air, breaking down the pronunciation step by step, and concludes with pilots communicating it via an aircraft intercom. He presented the video with the caption: “The official Jouska pronunciation guide. Please say it right. Made in AI.”
The video resonated with various celebrities. Ranveer Singh responded with enthusiasm, commenting, “Hahahahaha superb.” Ananya Panday also chimed in, labeling it “Insanee,” while Aparshakti Khurana expressed his love for the concept with an excited reaction. Fans mirrored this excitement, with comments highlighting the clever use of AI as a tool for creative expression.
In 2025, Batra partnered with Google India to produce a five-part video series featuring cinematic vignettes across various genres, including action, comedy, and sci-fi. The series, generated using AI, marked his foray into action filmmaking, showcasing a car chase sequence in the first installment titled “The Gateway Car.” Reflecting on this experience in an interview with Moneycontrol, he noted the limitations of traditional filmmaking approaches, stating that AI allowed them to visualize and produce sequences without the lengthy preparation typically required.
Batra emphasized that the future of AI in filmmaking hinges on its application. He suggested that merely using AI to replicate existing ideas won’t lead to significant innovation. Instead, he advocates for leveraging AI to foster new voices and methods in storytelling, positioning it as a potential catalyst for transformation in the industry.
Shakun Batra’s last feature film was “Gehraiyaan,” released on Amazon Prime Video in 2022. The film, which starred Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and Dhairya Karwa, received a mixed reception, with some criticism of its screenplay and ending. As of now, Batra has not disclosed information regarding his next project, leaving fans eager for updates.
