Rayhan Thomas Reflects on Valuable Lessons from Competitive Week in Chile

Rayhan Thomas is making notable progress in his first season on the Korn Ferry Tour. His recent performance at the Astara Chile Classic has further solidified his position in the ongoing season. With a steady four-round total of seven-under-par 277, Thomas finished tied for 34th place, an improvement that comes after having made the cut in four out of his six tournaments this season.

The 26-year-old player from Dubai recorded rounds of 69, 71, 70, and a promising final round of 67. This performance has propelled him to 69th place on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List. Thomas expressed satisfaction with his overall game during the tournament, noting how well he executed his short iron shots and putted, particularly during the final round.

However, he also acknowledged the need to refine his long game, specifically his driving and long iron play, which he felt were not at their best during the tournament. “When one area of the game works well, others falter; it is tough to keep on top of everything all the time,” he remarked, highlighting the challenges players face on tour.

Despite the positive aspects of his game, Thomas pointed out that minimizing mistakes will be crucial for his future performances. He shared that too many bogeys during the tournament were not in line with his usual style and believed that reducing those errors would lead to better scores. He noted the achievement of making 20 birdies over four days but emphasized the need to eliminate “ugly bogeys.”

Thomas also reflected on the competitive nature of the tour, where the winning score was 19 under par over a challenging 7,100-yard course. “It is tough out here on tour with some challenging venues and varied conditions every week,” he said, while taking pride in his competitive spirit and focus throughout the tournament.

The Astara Chile Classic was won by Doc Redman, who finished with a score of 19 under par, taking four shots ahead of the competition and moving up to fourth place on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List.

Looking ahead, Thomas is set to participate in the DP World Tour at the HERO Indian Open, scheduled for March 26-29 at DLF Golf & Country Club in New Delhi. He intends to take a short break before heading to India, where he hopes to make a significant impact on the course.

Following the Indian Open, Thomas will return to the Korn Ferry Tour in Florida, having opted out of one event during the US swing. The stakes are high, with the top 20 players at the end of the season gaining full PGA Tour cards, and the leading player receiving enhanced status and additional invitations to prestigious tournaments like the US Open and The Players Championship. Maintaining his position in the top 60 will also secure Thomas full status on the Korn Ferry Tour for the 2027 season.
