Last week, the entertainment world was stirred by the news that Sangeeta Sornalingam, wife of popular actor and TVK chief Vijay, filed for divorce in a Chennai court. The petition reportedly cites infidelity and an alleged affair with actress Trisha Krishnan as primary reasons. The couple made headlines when they attended a wedding together, prompting discussions and reactions across social media.
Director Mohan G Kshatriyan responded to the public’s curiosity by praising Vijay’s “guts” for attending the event. He shared a photo of the duo on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating that Vijay has a unique way of answering his critics and “shutting down all rumors.” His comments, however, sparked backlash from many fans who felt his remarks trivialized serious allegations.
In light of the criticism, Mohan sought to clarify his position. He insisted that he was not endorsing Vijay’s alleged affair but appreciated the actor’s ability to confront media narratives. He remarked that reactions to his post only demonstrate how the film industry sometimes prioritizes fame over integrity. Mohan emphasized that he was merely recognizing Vijay’s response to public scrutiny.
When questioned about Vijay’s influence on younger generations, Mohan defended his perspective. He remarked that despite many distinguished leaders advocating for positive change in politics, the youth often gravitate towards negative portrayals in films, reflecting a broader trend in Tamil cinema.
Despite his clarification, public sentiment remained skeptical. Many online users continued to criticize Mohan for apparently supporting Vijay amidst allegations of infidelity. Questions regarding the authenticity of the ‘narrative’ were raised, particularly in light of the claims presented in Sangeeta’s divorce petition. Some commenters pointed out the contradiction of defending someone embroiled in controversy, while others found the sight of Vijay and Trisha appearing at the wedding together somewhat uncomfortable.
Vijay and Sangeeta have been married since June 1998, with a second ceremony in Chennai in 1999, and together they have two children. The actor has plans to participate in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections, alongside recent engagements in public rallies. However, the release of his latest film, Jana Nayagan, has faced delays due to certification issues with the CBFC.
