Pakistani cricketer Salman Ali Agha has received an official reprimand for his behavior during the second One Day International (ODI) against Bangladesh in Dhaka. The International Cricket Council (ICC) disclosed this information, indicating that Agha breached the ICC Code of Conduct.
Specifically, Agha violated Level 1 of the code, particularly Article 2.2, which concerns the “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an International Match.” As a result of this infraction, he has received one demerit point on his disciplinary record, marking his first offence within a 24-month period.
The incident transpired during the 39th over of Pakistan’s innings. Following his run out, Agha reacted by throwing his batting gloves and helmet to the ground in a manner deemed inappropriate. He subsequently acknowledged his misconduct and accepted the proposed sanction from Neeyamur Rashid Rahul, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. This acceptance negated the need for a formal hearing.
The charge against Agha was brought forth by on-field umpires Adrian Holdstock and Tanvir Ahmed, with third umpire Kumar Dharmasena and fourth umpire Masudur Rahman Mukul also involved in the decision-making process. According to ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, alongside potential fines up to 50% of a player’s match fee and the issuance of one or two demerit points.
In the match itself, Pakistan managed to equalize the three-match series with a decisive 128-run victory over Bangladesh, utilizing the DLS method. This win sets the stage for a decider match against Bangladesh, scheduled for Sunday.
