Shanaya Kapoor’s debut film, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, has faced challenges at the box office during its opening weekend. Despite the presence of Vikrant Massey as the male lead, the romantic drama has struggled to attract audiences, earning merely ₹1.2 crore over its first three days.
The film’s performance indicates a modest start, with collections of ₹0.30 crore on Friday and ₹0.49 crore on Saturday. By Sunday, however, it managed to gather approximately ₹0.41 crore, culminating in a total of around ₹1.2 crore for the weekend. While this slight increase suggests a small uptick in interest, overall occupancy levels remained low.
On Sunday, the film’s occupancy reached 17.11%, improving from 15.25% on Saturday. Morning shows reported 7.40% occupancy, with afternoon and evening performances faring better at 20.09% and 23.14%, respectively. Notably, the night shows saw no attendance, likely due to the limited availability of late screenings.
Critically, Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan has received mixed reviews. According to Hindustan Times, the film is described as a love story that struggles to maintain momentum. The adaptation of Ruskin Bond’s short story, The Eyes Have It, is highlighted for its narrative flaws. The review points out inconsistencies in the plot, particularly regarding a key character who remains blindfolded throughout their journey.
The film was directed by Santosh Singh and produced by Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla. Drawing inspiration from Bond’s work, it explores the romance between a visually impaired musician and a theatre artist, set against the backdrop of several beautiful locations.
As Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan continues its theatrical run, its ability to engage viewers remains to be seen. The combination of a well-known literary source and a fresh cast has not yet translated into box office success, suggesting that the film may need further support to improve its standings.
