Fernando Martin, a coach for Valencia CF, tragically lost his life alongside three of his children after their boat capsized in Indonesia. This incident has been confirmed by various Spanish football clubs, which expressed their condolences.
Valencia CF released a statement expressing their profound sadness over Martin’s passing. The club highlighted the loss of both him and his three children due to a boat accident in the Padar Island Strait, an area known for its tourist attractions. Local authorities reported the accident occurred during extreme weather conditions.
Initial reports indicated that Martin and his children were among the missing after the boat, carrying a total of 11 passengers, sank on Friday. The local search and rescue teams, including Indonesian and Spanish authorities, launched efforts to locate the missing individuals.
On Sunday morning, Fathur Rahman, the mission coordinator for Indonesia’s search and rescue agency, provided updates, confirming that search operations were ongoing. The agency aims to recover all individuals involved in the mishap.
Real Madrid CF also expressed their sorrow regarding Martin’s death. The 44-year-old coach had recently taken the helm of Valencia Women’s B team after a career as a player in Spanish football’s second tier. His contributions to the sport were appreciated by many.
In a fortunate turn of events, Martin’s wife and one of his daughters were rescued safely. Reports indicate that four crew members and a tour guide were also rescued and are now in safe condition, as confirmed in a statement from the search and rescue team.
