UGC Season 3: Elite Matchplay Faces Off on the Earth Course

The release of the film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, on December 5, 2025, has sparked considerable discussion in the film community. A recent viral reel suggests that the movie bears striking resemblances to Ram Gopal Varma’s iconic film, Satya.

A viral video circulating on social media highlights similar scenes from both Dhurandhar and Satya. The latter, which debuted in 1998, features Manoj Bajpayee as Bhiku Mhatre. The two films share a plot structure where the protagonists, Hamza from Dhurandhar and Satya from Satya, face attacks from gang members shortly after arriving in the city. Their subsequent journey leads them to join a gang, culminating in scenes where they retaliate against their attackers.

Character similarities also draw attention, particularly between Rehman Dakait, the antagonist of Dhurandhar, portrayed by Akshaye Khanna, and Bhiku Mhatre. Both characters exhibit a tragic downfall, ultimately betrayed by those closest to them. Additionally, Rehman’s memorable Lyari speech echoes the impactful monologue delivered by Bhiku.

While Dhurandhar is marketed as a fictional work, it openly acknowledges real-life inspirations. The film contains references to various historical incidents, notably the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight IC-814. This event involved a dramatic altercation with hijackers that ended tragically, resulting in the loss of lives.

In terms of character development, Dhurandhar incorporates narratives based on actual figures. For instance, Akshaye Khanna’s portrayal of Rehman Dakait draws from the life of Abdul Rehman Baloch, a notorious gangster in Karachi. Similarly, the film features Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam, a character inspired by the real-life police officer known for his encounters with criminals.

Following the success of Dhurandhar, anticipation is building for its sequel, Dhurandhar 2, set to be released on March 19, 2026. This sequel is expected to reunite the original cast, including Ranveer Singh, R. Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt. Reports suggest that Akshaye Khanna will also appear in flashback sequences. The sequel promises to delve deeper into the character of Jaskirat Singh Rangi, portrayed by Ranveer Singh, and is anticipated to have a darker narrative tone.

As discussions unfold regarding the film’s connections to Satya, audience reactions continue to surface. The cinematic landscape remains rich with analysis as viewers compare and contrast the two films.
