Varma’s outstanding innings of 101 not out off just 45 balls propelled Mumbai to a total of 199-5, recovering from a precarious position of 96-4. His explosive performance played a crucial role in asserting dominance against their opponents.
The Mumbai bowlers were equally impressive, with Jasprit Bumrah setting the tone by claiming his first wicket of the season on the very first ball of Gujarat’s chase. This early breakthrough was pivotal as Mumbai bundled out Gujarat for a mere 100 runs in just 15.5 overs.
After a rocky start to the season that included four consecutive defeats following their opening win, this latest victory lifted the Mumbai Indians from the bottom of the ten-team table to seventh place.
