Priyanka Chopra has emerged as a prominent figure in the global entertainment landscape following her transition from Bollywood to Hollywood. Her manager, Anjula Acharia, recently shared insights into the skepticism they faced when attempting to break into the American market.
Acharia appeared on an episode of The Ok Sweetie Show, where she recounted the challenges involved in introducing Chopra as a “brown Bollywood star” to Hollywood in the lead-up to her role in the series Quantico. Reflecting on that period, she noted the doubts that surrounded their efforts.
In her recollection, Acharia emphasized the initial disbelief they encountered, recalling, “People told me I was stupid when I brought Priyanka into the conversation. Everyone was like, ‘you can’t break a brown Bollywood star in America.’” During this uncertain time, she reached out to music industry figure Jimmy Iovine, who encouraged her by sharing his own experiences of skepticism, citing how people doubted his vision when he wanted to launch Eminem.
Chopra’s journey in Hollywood began with a lead role in Quantico, where she quickly gained recognition. Following this, she made her Hollywood movie debut in the action-comedy Baywatch, starring alongside icons like Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. Since then, she has appeared in a variety of projects, including The Matrix: Revolutions, Citadel, Love Again, and Isn’t It Romantic. Currently, she resides in the U.S. with her husband, Nick Jonas, and they have a daughter named Malti Marie.
Looking ahead, Chopra has several exciting projects lined up. She will portray Bloody Mary in the R-rated pirate adventure The Bluff, set to premiere on Prime Video on February 25. Additionally, she is set to make her return to Indian cinema with the Telugu film Varanasi, directed by SS Rajamouli, featuring co-stars Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. This film is anticipated to be released in cinemas during Sankranthi 2027. Moreover, fans can expect the second season of the web series Citadel to add to her impressive portfolio.
