Abdullah Bin Zayed Leads the Steering Committee Meeting of the BRICS Group

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, presided over the steering committee meeting for the “BRICS” group, which was conducted via video conferencing with the participation of numerous ministers, officials, and representatives from governmental entities involved in the group’s activities.

During the meeting, updates on the United Arab Emirates’ involvement in the BRICS group were presented, along with discussions on how to enhance this engagement and ensure effective coordination among all relevant entities in the country.

His Highness emphasized the importance of intensifying and coordinating efforts among various stakeholders to achieve a productive and impactful participation in the group, reflecting the UAE’s standing and responsible role in promoting multilateral cooperation with all active global partners.

The session included a presentation by His Excellency Said Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE Sherpa for the BRICS group. He summarized the key developments in the UAE’s participation in BRICS and the nation’s priorities in addressing the group’s main areas of focus.

Additionally, the meeting explored the roles of different entities and proposed initiatives to enhance their participation within the BRICS framework, covering areas such as economy and finance, energy and transport, climate and agriculture, science and technology, justice, health, culture, and sports.

Preparations for the upcoming BRICS summit scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 6 to 7, 2025, were also discussed.

Attendees included: His Excellency Mohammed Hadi Al Hussaini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs; Her Excellency Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation; His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; His Excellency Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of Sports; and several others, including ministers for education, economy, tourism, and justice, as well as high-ranking officials from various governmental departments.

Also present were senior officials including Major General Khalifa Harib Al Khaili, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; Mubarak Al Nakhai, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture; and others responsible for emergency management, public health services, and advanced technology regulations.

The meeting further hosted His Excellency Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organizations, and His Excellency Dr. Abdul Nasser Al Shaali, UAE Ambassador to India, among others key diplomatic figures.
