Akshaye Khanna has recently attracted attention for his impressive dance sequences in the spy-action thriller, Dhurandhar. His energetic moves in the track Fa9la have gone viral, highlighting his vibrant presence on screen. However, in a surprising turn of events, Khanna has stepped down from his role in the highly anticipated sequel, Drishyam 3, despite previously agreeing to participate.
Producer Mangat Pathak has publicly addressed Akshaye Khanna’s abrupt withdrawal from the project. In a conversation with ETimes, he explained that after the actor signed the contract and finalized his costumes—which were paid for—a last-minute text notified him of Khanna’s exit. Pathak criticized this action as unprofessional, revealing that Khanna has not been responsive to calls or messages. The producer expressed disappointment, emphasizing their long-standing working relationship.
Following Khanna’s decision to withdraw, speculation arose regarding the reasons behind it. Reports suggest that his request to wear a wig and a substantial raise in remuneration may have contributed to the situation. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Mangat Pathak confirmed Khanna’s exit and mentioned that director Abhishek Pathak had attempted to explain that wearing a wig would pose continuity challenges for the sequel.
Pathak further elaborated that Drishyam is a significant franchise, and whether or not Khanna is involved, the production will continue smoothly. He announced that Jaideep Ahlawat, known for his role in The Family Man 3, has been brought in as Khanna’s replacement. The producer spoke positively about Ahlawat, stating both his acting abilities and personal character surpass those of Khanna. Mangat also noted their past collaboration, revealing that he had produced one of Jaideep’s earlier films, Aakrosh.
As the news unfolds, audiences await the next steps for both the Drishyam franchise and Akshaye Khanna. The transition from Khanna to Ahlawat may impact fan expectations, but the producer remains confident about the film’s direction. What do you think about this change?
