Engineer Amina Khalid Al-Mazmi, who works in the Forensic Engineering Department within the General Department of Criminal Evidence and Science in Dubai Police, has made history by becoming the first woman in the UAE to achieve the title of “Forensic Engineering Expert.” This recognition was awarded after she met all the international criteria and requirements set forth for this specialized career path within the Dubai Police Force, which included various courses, certifications, fieldwork, and the preparation of technical reports related to engineering failure investigations.
Al-Mazmi has successfully conducted field investigations into incidents using the latest global standards endorsed by the International Board of Forensic Engineering Sciences (IBFES) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Additionally, she holds international membership with the American Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
Regarding this achievement, Major General Ahmad Thani bin Ghalita, the Director of the General Department of Criminal Evidence and Science, stated that Amina Khalid Al-Mazmi’s receipt of the title “Forensic Engineering Expert” reflects her excellence and professionalism in her field. He emphasized the commitment of the Dubai Police leadership, under the guidance of Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al-Marri, to enhance the skills of female personnel and promote women’s empowerment in specialized fields, enabling them to showcase their abilities for the benefit of the nation.
Al-Mazmi’s academic journey was marked by excellence, as she completed her bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Dubai Technical College with honors, followed by a master’s degree in Data Science from the University of Dubai, also graduating with distinction.
Upon graduating, she began her career in a government department, taking on roles in the energy transmission sector. Throughout her work tenure, she gained valuable experience, and after obtaining her master’s degree, she joined the General Department of Criminal Investigations and Police Research in Dubai. Here, she became familiar with police work and was drawn to investigations related to her engineering specialization, which prompted her transfer to the Forensic Evidence Department’s Forensic Engineering section.
In her new role, Al-Mazmi received substantial support in forensic engineering investigations, quickly becoming a role model in the field by gaining expertise and undergoing specialized training courses. She has played a crucial role in solving cases that necessitate specialized engineering reports.
Describing her work, she stated: “Forensic engineering involves investigating cases and incidents resulting from engineering failures or potential engineering-related causes.”
She further explained, “My job entails visiting crime scenes and investigations that require forensic engineering reports, such as buildings subjected to fire that raise suspicions of engineering faults. We assess the engineering work, including electrical circuits, to determine if there was a technical malfunction or criminal human interference, and we compile a report for public prosecution and the judiciary to ensure justice.”
