Arab Parliament Speaker Congratulates Sheikha Al-Nuwais on Her Election as Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization

Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, the President of the Arab Parliament, extended his congratulations to Sheikha Nasser Al Nuaimi on her recent election as the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization for the term from 2026 to 2029. This achievement marks a historic milestone as she becomes the first woman in the region to hold this position since the organization’s establishment in 1975, further solidifying the UAE’s leadership in the global tourism sector.

In a statement, Al Yamahi praised this significant accomplishment, which reflects the remarkable successes achieved by Emirati women on both regional and international levels. He attributed this progress to the unwavering support and keen vision of the nation’s leadership, particularly His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, who places great importance on empowering women and creating an environment conducive to their active participation in the country’s comprehensive development across various fields.

He further noted that this success exemplifies the tireless efforts of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, also known as “Mother of the Nation,” who is the President of the General Women’s Union, the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and the Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation. Her initiatives aim to support and empower Emirati women in all areas of work, leadership, and attaining high-ranking regional and international positions.

Al Yamahi emphasized that Sheikha Al Nuaimi’s election to this prestigious international role underscores the UAE’s esteemed status in global tourism and adds to its impressive record of achievements in various international arenas.

He concluded by stating that this honor not only brings pride to the UAE but also to the entire Arab world, enhancing the presence of Arab women in global decision-making roles and demonstrating the capability of Emirati professionals to lead international institutions with competence and dignity.
