Shanaya Kapoor and Vikrant Massey star in the romantic drama “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan,” which premiered recently to mixed reviews and has struggled to connect with audiences. On its second day of release, the film earned only ₹43 lakh, reflecting its challenges at the box office.
Despite hopes for a strong opening, the film’s performance has been underwhelming. Its first-day collection was ₹30 lakh, and even with a slight increase on the second day, the overall earnings barely reached ₹73 lakh to date. This indicates a tough road ahead for the film as it aims for the ₹1 crore milestone.
Occupancy figures on Saturday further revealed the film’s lukewarm reception, with an average of only 15.25% across screenings in Hindi. Morning shows attracted just 7.52% of moviegoers, with modest improvements during the afternoon and evening, eventually peaking at 23.14% for late-night viewings.
Shanaya Kapoor, making her acting debut with this project, faced setbacks prior to this release, as her initial film, “Bedhadak,” was shelved. Her entry into the film industry comes with expectations, but the initial response to “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan” has been less than promising.
The plot focuses on a tale of love and emotional connections, with a storyline based on Ruskin Bond’s short story “The Eyes Have It.” Directed by Santosh Singh and produced by Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla, the narrative explores the romance between a visually impaired musician and a theatre artist, aiming to invoke deeper themes of human relationships.
Reviews have critiqued the film’s pacing and engagement, with The Hindustan Times stating that while the beginning of the story carries hope, it falters in the latter half, lacking the emotional highs and tension necessary to captivate an audience. As it stands, “Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan” faces significant hurdles as it navigates its theatrical run.
