Superstar Rajinikanth recently marked a significant milestone in his career, celebrating 50 years in Indian cinema. During an event at the 56th International Film Festival of India, he expressed that his journey in the film industry feels remarkably brief, akin to just “10 to 15 years.”
The 74-year-old actor, renowned for his profound influence in the Indian film landscape, received heartfelt tributes at this occasion. Goa’s Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, presented Rajinikanth with a shawl and a commemorative memento, acknowledging his contributions to cinema.
Reflecting on his career, Rajinikanth stated, “If I look back, it seems like I’ve just been around for 10 to 15 years and that’s because I love cinema and acting.” He emphasized that given another opportunity for reincarnation, he would still choose to be an actor. This enduring passion highlights his connection to the craft, which has garnered immense love and respect from audiences throughout his career.
Rajinikanth dedicated the honor he received to the broader cinema community, expressing gratitude towards producers, directors, technicians, and fans who have supported him throughout these decades. His unique style and performances have captivated generations, making him a cultural icon.
Making his debut in the 1975 film “Apoorva Ragangal,” Rajinikanth’s career includes a diverse range of roles in celebrated films such as “Thalapath,” “Baasha,” “Mullum Malarum,” “Enthiran,” “Kabali,” and most recently, “Jailer.” His remarkable journey has been characterized by a blend of action, drama, and unforgettable performances that resonate with fans.
At the ceremony, prominent figures from the film industry attended, including Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, and actor Ranveer Singh. Their presence underscored the significance of Rajinikanth’s legacy in Indian cinema.
The event also showcased Rajinikanth’s film “Lal Salaam,” directed by his daughter Aishwarya, which focuses on the struggles of aspiring cricketers fighting against injustice in the sport. This Tamil-language sports action drama features actors Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in lead roles, with Rajinikanth making an extended cameo.
Looking ahead, Rajinikanth is slated to appear in “Jailer 2,” which is set for release in June 2026. Additionally, he is involved in an upcoming untitled project produced by his esteemed colleague Kamal Haasan, signifying that his creative journey is far from over.
