As part of the “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign, the Fraud Prevention Team from the General Department of Investigations and Criminal Sciences in Dubai Police has successfully apprehended a fraudster involved in disseminating fake advertisements on websites and social media platforms. This individual falsely claimed to offer residential apartments for rent at attractive prices.
Dubai Police emphasized the importance of promptly reporting any suspicious advertisements or fraud attempts via the Dubai Police smart app or by calling 901. They underscored that public awareness and cooperation serve as the first line of defense against such crimes.
The authorities revealed that the fraudster targeted individuals seeking housing, requesting financial transfers as a deposit or initial payment to secure reservations, only to vanish after receiving the money without fulfilling any commitments. They highlighted that this type of behavior constitutes cyber fraud, punishable by law, and falls under the strict jurisdiction of the Fraud Prevention Center.
Dubai Police urged community members to be cautious and avoid falling victim to such tactics, advising everyone not to transfer any funds before verifying the landlord’s identity and property ownership, and to formalize contracts through official and recognized channels.
