The Dubai Police General Command, through its Empowerment Council for People of Determination, participated in the seventh edition of the International Expo for People of Determination. They showcased a range of security, criminal, and community services specifically designed for this group, adhering to the highest global standards. The aim was to meet their needs and achieve complete integration as both beneficiaries of services and active employees within the police work environment.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Hamad Al Shamsi, head of the council, stated that their participation in the expo aligns with the comprehensive strategy of the Dubai Police, which prioritizes the empowerment of people of determination. He remarked:
“Through this participation, we manifest our genuine commitment to providing an inclusive and comprehensive environment that addresses the needs of people of determination both in terms of employment and services. We are also keen to highlight the achievements made in this area and continue developing smart services and innovative initiatives that enhance their quality of life and provide them with equal opportunities.”
Deputy Head of the Council, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Al Mazrouei, emphasized the importance of integrating people of determination within the police framework, not only as clients but also as partners in success.
He stated: “We have developed the work environment to meet the requirements of full integration by preparing the infrastructure, providing assistive tools and technologies, and implementing specialized training programs to help remove barriers and open new horizons for people of determination in the security field.”
In a notable initiative, the Security Media Department of the Dubai Police launched a special edition of the children’s magazine “Khalid” during the expo. This issue focuses on real-life stories and experiences that promote the concepts of coexistence, tolerance, and integration among children while instilling principles of acceptance and mutual respect.
Zainab Hussein Nasser, editor-in-chief of the magazine, stated: “Believing that creating genuine awareness starts in childhood, we released this special issue featuring inspiring stories from schools in Dubai where children share their experiences interacting with peers of determination, along with educational dialogues and engaging learning adventures that introduce them to various disabilities in a simplified and enjoyable manner.”
The magazine also introduced an educational and entertaining booklet for children titled “Saber and Walid,” designed to familiarize them with the world of people of determination in accessible language. It includes interactive activities such as coloring, a “goalball” game, and basic sign language.
Human Simulation Program in “Ghayath”
Among the remarkable initiatives, the Dubai Police revealed a virtual simulation program specifically designed for Corporal Murad Abbas Murad Al Balushi, an officer who was injured while on duty.
This program, conducted as part of the “Ghayath” smart patrols, allows him to experience driving patrols again virtually, representing a humanitarian step aimed at enhancing psychological support and rebuilding confidence.
One of the impactful stories featured was that of Nasser Mohammed Al Nourani, a blind journalist with the Dubai Police, who has carved out an inspiring 30-year career in media, overcoming his visual impairment to become a prominent voice in security journalism.
Al Nourani stated: “Since joining the Dubai Police in 1996, I have never been treated as just a person of determination but as an active member. I received significant support from an inclusive work environment, assistive technologies, and institutional initiatives that enhanced my capabilities. Today, I continue writing for the Khalid magazine, aiming to raise awareness among the new generations about human issues, integration, and justice.”
