Dubai Prisoner Receives Dh87,000 Prosthetic Due to Injury from Worn-Out Limb

A 41-year-old detainee in Dubai has been provided with comprehensive medical support, which includes a custom-made prosthetic limb, following his admission to the correctional facility in a severely weakened state.

The individual had previously suffered the amputation of his right foot and was battling ulcers and injuries that arose from a prosthetic device he had used for more than a decade.

The outdated prosthesis did not match his physical build and bone alignment, resulting in chronic discomfort, mobility challenges, and a significant deterioration in his general health.

Major General Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, who oversees the Punitive and Correctional Institutions, stated that the inmate was quickly referred to a specialist for necessary medical attention. He received “a new, high-quality prosthetic limb, valued at Dh87,133”.

To facilitate effective usage of the new limb, the inmate is participating in a six-month physiotherapy plan guided by rehabilitation experts. This program is designed to help him restore mobility and enhance his living conditions while incarcerated.

Julfar remarked, “This provision of care is a standard practice rather than an isolated instance. It is part of ongoing humanitarian efforts aimed at preserving the dignity of all detainees, irrespective of gender, while fostering a correctional environment that emphasizes health, psychological support, and social well-being. He reiterated that respect for human rights is a paramount concern, regardless of the detainee’s nationality or legal circumstances.”
