Dubai Routes Designates 15 Rest Areas for Delivery Bicycle Riders

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced 15 new air-conditioned rest areas for food delivery riders, strategically located at several key bus and metro stations across Dubai. This initiative aims to enhance road safety, improve quality of life, and provide essential services and comfort for delivery personnel during the enforcement of the new midday work ban, which is in effect from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM daily and will continue until September 15.

This rollout of temporary rest areas is part of a broader initiative by the RTA, which has previously established 40 air-conditioned rest spots in various bustling locations around the emirate. The design of these rest areas aims to minimize sunlight exposure while maintaining visibility and includes numerous amenities for the convenience of delivery riders, such as water dispensers and mobile charging stations. Additionally, there are ample designated parking spaces for motorcycles beside each rest area, among other features that contribute to enhancing rider satisfaction and promote adherence to traffic regulations.

The new temporary rest areas have also been supplied with approximately 7,500 meals provided by the Emirates Food Bank, in collaboration with Deliveroo, to offer free meals to delivery drivers. This is in recognition of their daily contributions to the community and their essential role in supporting the emirate’s economy, especially in light of the substantial growth in the delivery sector.

The rest areas have been established at the following bus stations: Gold Souk, Al Sufouh, Al Jafiliya, Oud Metha, and metro stations: E& Go out 1, Al Qusais Exit 1, Al Qusais Exit 2, Emirates Towers Exit 1, Insurance Market Exit 2, Centerpoint Exit 1, Al Furjan Exit 1, Business Bay Exit 2, DMCC Exit 2, ADCB Exit 2, and Burjuman Exit 4.

The RTA has emphasized its commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment for food delivery riders and enhancing their traffic safety, especially given the significant growth of this sector in recent years to meet public demand for goods.

It is noteworthy that the RTA has developed a comprehensive operational system for the delivery sector to ensure outstanding service for the public, which includes implementing regulations and guidelines for the activity, alongside various initiatives aimed at achieving service quality targets.

This initiative is designed to support drivers, who are the backbone of the delivery sector, while also raising community awareness about their vital role. It also aims to mitigate food waste by systematically and safely redistributing surplus food. This advancement aligns with a holistic strategy to promote sustainability and partnerships with the private sector.

The Emirates Food Bank exemplifies a comprehensive model rooted in the humanitarian approach established by the UAE’s leadership, placing charitable work and community solidarity at the heart of sustainable development. At the Emirates Food Bank, we believe that delivering food to those in need is not just a charitable initiative but a human and moral duty that reflects the values of giving and solidarity foundational to the UAE.
