The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed the initial phase of the development project for waiting areas at marine transport stations in the Dubai Marina area. This phase includes the construction of five stations: Marina Promenade, Marina Terrace, Marina Walk, Marina Mall, and Marina Mall 1. Each station features climate control, comprehensive amenities, and innovative designs that celebrate the cultural and heritage identity of the region, with influences drawn from the traditional wooden abras of the emirate.
This initiative is part of the RTA’s broader strategy to enhance the marine transport infrastructure in Dubai and improve service quality to align with the Dubai government’s aspirations to provide top-tier global services to residents, tourists, and citizens, thereby reinforcing the emirate’s status as a premier international tourist destination.
The stations are specifically designed to improve connectivity between vital facilities and major attractions in the area. They link large commercial centers such as Marina Mall with nearby residential areas, as well as with metro and tram stations, ensuring an integrated public transport system that eases movement for residents and visitors while reducing reliance on private vehicles, thus allowing for seamless connectivity among various public transport modes.
The first phase of this project was executed based on customer satisfaction survey results, leading to the incorporation of several modern amenities aimed at enhancing the overall experience. These include free internet access during wait times, a public announcement system for clear and efficient communication, and live information displays regarding marine transport services to fully meet user needs.
According to Khalaf Al Ghous, Director of Marine Transport at the RTA, this initiative demonstrates the authority’s commitment to ensuring the highest safety and comfort standards for marine transport users. Security measures such as surveillance cameras and fire alarm systems have also been implemented.
Al Ghous further noted, “The authority has integrated elements of the ‘Dubai Code’ for people of determination in the design of waiting areas, reflecting our dedication to catering to all community segments. This approach facilitates accessibility and creates an accommodating environment with features like ramps and smooth pathways, designed according to their needs.”
Looking ahead, Al Ghous revealed that the next phase of the project will involve the completion of five additional stations, adhering to the global standards implemented in the first phase. These stations will be selected based on growing demand and their strategic importance, reinforcing the RTA’s strategy to enhance customer satisfaction and provide innovative services that ensure sustainability, comfort, and quality of life in Dubai.
