Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, has officially been designated as the host city for Expo 2030, following the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) granting final approval to its registration dossier during a General Assembly in Paris.

This decision represents the final formal step in the selection process, confirming Riyadh’s position as the upcoming host for the World Expo.

During the ceremony, the World Expo flag was presented to the Saudi delegation by the BIE.

The delegation was headed by Engineer Ibrahim Al-Sultan, Minister of State and Acting CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), along with Fahd bin Mayouf Al-Ruwaili, the Saudi Ambassador to France, and other senior officials.

Al-Sultan remarked, “The quick approval of our registration dossier highlights the kingdom’s prominent role on the global stage and reflects the international community’s trust in Saudi Arabia’s vision and capabilities.” He also praised the “high level of professionalism” displayed by the teams involved in preparing the dossier.

Expo 2030 Riyadh Master Plan

The registration dossier serves as a comprehensive blueprint for the expo, illustrating Saudi Arabia’s dedication to fostering a global platform for innovation, international collaboration, and sustainable development. According to the RCRC, Riyadh is the first expo host to complete and submit its dossier in less than half the usual time required.

This approval now allows for the next stage of preparations, which includes formally inviting international participants through diplomatic channels.

Expo 2030 Riyadh is scheduled to occur from October 1, 2030, to March 31, 2031, on an expansive six million-square-metre site, designed to welcome over 40 million visitors.

Organizers expect participation from more than 195 countries and are working on providing advanced infrastructure, hospitality, and transportation offerings.

The venue is being developed to ensure an immersive and seamless experience for visitors, aligning with the broader goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

Promoted as one of the largest and most ambitious expos to date, Expo 2030 Riyadh aims to encourage global dialogue, innovation, and cultural exchange, while establishing a lasting legacy that extends beyond the kingdom’s borders.
