In a speech to the United Nations General Assembly, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti stated that Gaza is experiencing a “man-made famine due to Israel,” warning about the ongoing genocide and the ongoing denial of Palestinian statehood, which renders discussions about peace meaningless.
Abdel Atti emphasized Egypt’s rejection of any scenario that involves the displacement of the Palestinian people, labeling such actions as “ethnic cleansing,” and highlighted that Palestinians are facing a war driven by extremist ideologies.
He noted that the Middle East is on the “verge of explosion” due to the lack of peace, security, and respect for international law, cautioning that the crimes being committed in front of the international community undermine the credibility of the global order.
Additionally, Abdel Atti expressed appreciation for President Donald Trump’s announcement about working with regional leaders to halt the conflict in Gaza, indicating Cairo’s readiness to build on this vision to resolve the crisis.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister warned that the ongoing aggression in Gaza for the past two years threatens the foundations of peace in the region and complicates the prospect of any future settlement.
