The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, has dismissed Iranian claims that a recent report regarding nuclear inspections, which concluded that Tehran is in violation of its legal commitments, has served as any form of justification for Israeli attacks on the Islamic Republic.
Grossi denied that his inspectors provided any justification for the Israeli operations, which commenced on June 13 and reportedly caused damage to several Iranian nuclear facilities, according to Bloomberg news.
In a media interview on Thursday, Grossi stated, “It is inconceivable that a report issued by the Director General of the IAEA could play any role in justifying military actions by Israel.”
He further emphasized that “suggesting in any way that a report from the IAEA acts as a green light or preparation for an attack is utterly absurd.”
Iran has accused the IAEA, based in Vienna, of being “an accomplice in an aggressive and unjust war,” as reported by the Tehran Times, citing a spokesperson from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
Former Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed on the social media platform X that the agency has caused “irreparable damage to the country.”
