The travel experience at Dubai International Airport has significantly evolved and is not like the traditional chaos seen in airports worldwide, where passengers stand in lines to complete check-in procedures. Instead of fumbling through passports or ID cards to present to employees or machines, travelers now benefit from innovative advancements.
Today, thanks to Dubai’s latest innovations, the entire process has transformed. Following years of implementing smart gates, passengers now glide along a stylish red carpet, allowing smart technology to handle check-in automatically without the need to pause or present any documents. Remarkably, the speed at which a traveler walks is the sole factor determining the duration of the check-in process; the faster their steps, the quicker their procedures, with some cases taking only about six seconds—an astonishing improvement over previous methods.
The Smart Corridor, also known as the “Red Carpet,” introduced by Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, represents a groundbreaking leap in the future of travel. It allows travelers to complete all necessary protocols in mere seconds without stopping to show a passport, ID card, or boarding pass. This innovative pathway is designed with smart cameras that recognize travelers’ facial features and iris patterns as they walk by, automatically matching their information for a seamless check-in experience without human intervention.
This project, which has begun its operations in the Business Class terminal of Concourse 3 at Dubai International Airport for both departing and arriving passengers, is part of the “Borderless Travel” initiative launched by Dubai Residency. It promises processing speeds up to ten times faster than traditional smart gates, enabling a crossing that takes just seconds, depending on the traveler’s walking pace.
The Smart Corridor, which will soon be implemented in all terminals at Dubai Airport, showcases one of Dubai’s success stories in anticipating the future of travel and embracing artificial intelligence technologies. This development offers a smooth and secure experience that enhances passenger comfort and movement, reinforcing the emirate’s status as a leading global destination for smart services and innovation in the aviation sector.
