The Indonesian authorities have raised the alert level to its highest status following the eruption of the Lewotobi Lakilaki volcano on the tourist island of Flores, which occurred again today, sending a dense ash cloud that reached over 1,000 meters in height.
The Indonesian National Agency for Volcanology reported that the volcano erupted again after midnight, releasing an ash plume that peaked at 1.2 kilometers above the summit, with additional eruptions taking place later in the morning.
Mohammad Wahid, the head of the Geological Agency of Indonesia, urged local residents to wear masks to avoid inhaling ash and advised against any activities within a six-kilometer radius of the volcano’s crater. He also warned of the potential for mudslides if heavy rains occur, particularly affecting residential areas near rivers that flow down from the volcano’s slopes.
