The sixth cohort of an artificial intelligence program has been launched, featuring the participation of 77 employees from both the public and private sectors. This initiative aims to cultivate a skilled national workforce capable of leading the digital transformation in the UAE by equipping them with the latest knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. The program seeks to enhance the country’s position as a global hub for technology and innovation, aligning with its future aspirations.
The launch of the program, organized by the National AI Program in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, included a panel discussion with notable speakers such as H.E. Engineer Amal Abdelrahim, Assistant Undersecretary for Supporting Services and CEO of AI at the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Ahmed Al-Houqani, CEO of AI at the General Civil Aviation Authority, and Ahmed Al-Ali, CEO of AI at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. The session was moderated by Marwa Al-Shaibani from the Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications.
During the discussion, the AI executives shared their experiences with the AI program and highlighted how it has helped refine their skills and enrich their expertise in emerging fields. They elaborated on how the program has broadened their strategic thinking and enhanced their ability to devise AI-based solutions that contribute to the advancement of their sectors.
The participants emphasized that the program is a true platform for empowerment and networking, connecting them with a select group of experts and decision-makers, thereby facilitating the transformation of ideas into tangible projects with significant impacts on the digital transformation ecosystem.
Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mahmood, a director at the Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, stated that AI programs and initiatives designed to enhance talent and build capacities in this domain are vital for propelling the UAE’s journey toward the future. These efforts are supported by generations of innovators in AI and other future-oriented fields.
Dr. Al-Mahmood added that developing technological skills is crucial for fostering a strategic mindset that enhances our capacity for innovation and influence. By bringing together government personnel in a knowledge-sharing platform with thought leaders and experts, the program aims to translate our aspirations into entrepreneurial projects that support digital transformation and align with the nation’s ambitions for future leadership.
The sixth cohort of the AI program includes new entities such as the National Emergency and Crisis Management Authority, the Crisis and Emergency Management Center of Abu Dhabi, Dubai Ambulance, the Dubai Cyber Security Center, the Sharjah Police General Command, and the NMD Group.
The program aims to introduce participants to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and generative AI, as well as its rapid global advancements. It addresses future challenges and opportunities in vital sectors, focusing on AI trends, the application of large language models, and innovative solutions for security challenges.
It is worth noting that the AI program has successfully graduated over 370 employees from more than 100 public and private organizations in its previous cohorts. These graduates hold leadership positions in their organizations, including newly created roles such as Chief AI Officers. They have worked on developing innovative projects in AI and its applications, while the program has provided participants with opportunities to enhance their capabilities and fulfill their ambitions in creating innovative ideas and projects that can be utilized to improve performance across various sectors, leveraging the advanced technological infrastructure available in the country.
