Project Hail Mary,” directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and starring Ryan Gosling, will see a change in its release schedule in India. Originally set to debut on March 20, the film will now be released on March 26 to avoid competition with “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” featuring Ranveer Singh.
Sony Pictures India and IMAX India confirmed the new release date on Friday. The film, co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures International Releasing, will be available in multiple languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Based on the novel by Andy Weir, best known for “The Martian,” “Project Hail Mary” follows Ryland Grace, a school teacher portrayed by Gosling, who awakens on a spacecraft after a coma and encounters an alien. The cast also features Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub. Initial reviews have been favorable, with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro praising the film for its emotional depth and strong performances.
Sony and IMAX’s announcement emphasized their commitment to delivering an exceptional cinematic experience. Fans expressed their excitement at the new date, with many relieved that the release was not postponed further.
In the meantime, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” the sequel to the popular “Dhurandhar,” will arrive in theaters on March 19. The original film, released in December 2025, was a significant success, grossing approximately ₹1300 crore worldwide. The sequel will also cater to broader audiences, being released in various South Indian languages alongside Hindi.
Returning cast members include Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt, with the storyline set in Lyari, Pakistan. The narrative revolves around an Indian spy infiltrating a Baloch gang to dismantle a terror group. “Dhurandhar 2” faces minimal competition, primarily from Pawan Kalyan’s film “Ustaad Bhagat Singh,” which will release only in Telugu-speaking regions.
As the release dates approach, both films generate significant anticipation among audiences, marking a big moment for Indian cinema this March.
