Meet Zomato’s New CEO: Albinder Dhindsa Steps Up After Goyal’s Exit

Deepinder Goyal, a prominent figure in the Indian tech industry, has announced his resignation as Group CEO and Managing Director of Eternal, effective February 1, 2026. Goyal, who co-founded Zomato in 2008, will be succeeded by Albinder Singh Dhindsa, the current CEO of Blinkit, marking a significant leadership transition within the company.

Albinder Dhindsa has been appointed as the new CEO of Eternal Ltd., the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit. He takes over from Goyal, who has been a pivotal part of the company’s journey since its inception. While Dhindsa steps into his new role, Goyal will continue to contribute to the organization as the vice chairman of Eternal’s board. The company previously known as Zomato rebranded to Eternal last year, reflecting its evolving business strategy.

Born in Patiala, Punjab, Albinder Dhindsa is in his 40s and holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi. His career began as a transportation analyst at URS Corporation, followed by a position as a senior associate at Cambridge Systematics, where he specialized in logistics and supply chain systems. Dhindsa furthered his education by pursuing an MBA at Columbia Business School, during which he worked at UBS Investment Bank. Upon returning to India, he joined Zomato, focusing initially on international operations and expanding the company’s global footprint.

In 2013, Dhindsa co-founded Grofers with Saurabh Kumar, aiming to deliver grocery and pharmacy products straight to consumers’ homes. The startup quickly grew but faced various operational and financial hurdles during its expansion phase. In 2021, Grofers transitioned to Blinkit, rebranding itself to align with the increasing demand for quick commerce. The following year, Blinkit was acquired by Zomato as part of its strategy to enhance its market presence against competitors like Swiggy, with Dhindsa leading as CEO.

On a personal note, Albinder Singh Dhindsa is married to Akriti Chopra, an accomplished entrepreneur herself. Chopra, who became a key figure at Zomato since 2011, held various roles, including Senior Manager of Finance and Operations. She stepped down from her position in 2024 after dedicating over a decade to the company, expressing a desire to explore other opportunities.

As Albinder takes the helm of Zomato, the industry watches closely. His leadership style and vision are anticipated to shape the company’s future direction. What are your thoughts on this significant leadership change at Zomato?
