The Council of Muslim Elders, led by the esteemed Imam Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar, has strongly condemned the attack on a humanitarian convoy in northern Darfur, Sudan.
In a statement released today, the Council expressed its unequivocal rejection of such violence, deeming it a severe violation of international humanitarian law. It underscored the necessity to safeguard the security of civilians and the well-being of humanitarian workers, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the principles set forth in the Jeddah Declaration, ensuring safe passage for humanitarian aid, and prioritizing the welfare of the Sudanese people to protect them from the adverse effects of war.
The Council reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire, the facilitation of humanitarian relief efforts, and increased international efforts to bring an end to the conflict, aiming to fulfill the Sudanese people’s aspirations for peace and stability.
