The Council of Muslim Elders has strongly condemned the Israeli Knesset’s preliminary approval of two bills aimed at asserting Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and legalizing control over a settlement.
In a statement released today, the Council expressed its firm rejection of such provocative actions that seek to alter the legal and historical status of the occupied Palestinian territory. These actions represent a severe escalation and a blatant violation of international law, undermining efforts for a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
The Council reiterated its call for the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities and to counter Israel’s repeated attempts to annex the West Bank and eliminate the Palestinian cause. It emphasized that recognizing the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital is the only path to achieving lasting security and peace in the region.
