Nuclear Discussions Between Iran and Europeans Scheduled in Turkey Tomorrow

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, has indicated that a new round of nuclear talks with Germany, France, and the UK is expected to take place tomorrow in Turkey, following the postponement of a previous meeting originally scheduled for May 2nd.

Araqchi informed reporters during a weekly cabinet meeting in Tehran, stating, “I believe that the next round at the level of deputy foreign ministers is set to occur in Istanbul on Friday.”

French diplomatic sources have confirmed that discussions will indeed be held on Friday in Istanbul, involving political officials. Araqchi mentioned, “While we continue our dialogue with the United States, we are also willing to engage with the Europeans. Unfortunately, the Europeans have become somewhat isolated in these negotiations due to their own policies. We do not want a similar situation, which is why we have persisted in our discussions with them.”

Earlier reports from Reuters highlighted that the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister is set to meet with diplomats from France, the UK, and Germany to further the dialogue and address their perspectives on potential criteria for a new nuclear agreement under negotiation between Tehran and Washington.

Araqchi described the fourth round of Iranian-American talks, held on May 11, as challenging, as it was concentrated on uranium enrichment issues. He expressed hope that the Americans would approach the upcoming round of negotiations with a more realistic mindset, according to Bloomberg News. He added, “There is now a better understanding on the other side regarding Iran’s fundamental principles and positions.”

He mentioned that they are waiting for Oman to determine the time and location for the next round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, emphasizing their commitment to continue negotiations. The Omani Foreign Ministry is expected to announce details of the fifth round of talks soon.

Meanwhile, Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, stated that the kingdom fully supports the nuclear discussions between the United States and Iran and hopes for positive outcomes.
