Warsaw has requested NATO to activate Article 4 of its treaty, which stipulates consultations among member states in the event one of them is threatened. This request follows Poland’s announcement that drones launched by Russia during an attack on Ukraine violated its airspace on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday.
During a parliamentary session on Wednesday, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the consultation with allies “currently takes the form of an official request to activate Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty,” which established NATO in 1949.
