Russian President Vladimir Putin stated yesterday that the relationship between Moscow and Beijing is mutually beneficial and is not directed against anyone. This declaration was made during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Moscow, coinciding with the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory Day over Nazism in World War II.
Putin expressed gratitude to Xi for attending the Victory Day celebrations, which are observed annually on May 9, and referred to him as a dear friend. He emphasized that both Russia and China are committed to defending the historical truth regarding World War II.
He welcomed the transfer of Chinese technology to Russia, mentioning, “We are set to sign many trade agreements during discussions with the Chinese president.” Putin reinforced that China and Russia maintain close coordination and cooperation on international issues.
Coordination and Cooperation
In response, President Xi asserted China’s support for Russia against what he described as “hegemonic oppression,” highlighting the strong coordination and collaboration between the two nations on international matters.
Xi further stated, “In the face of contrary currents based on unilateralism and hegemonic oppression, China will work closely with Russia to shoulder the responsibilities of major global powers.” He noted that “the mutual political trust between China and Russia is deepening, and the connections for practical cooperation are growing stronger.”
The Chinese leader expressed readiness to collaborate with Russia to ensure stability and functionality of the multilateral global trading system, adding, “Currently, the China-Russia relationship is characterized by increased trust, stability, and resilience.” According to the Kremlin, both Russia and China criticized the missile defense initiative proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this January.
