Raghav Chadha Departs as AAP’s Rajya Sabha Deputy Leader: A Journey Unfolded

Raghav Chadha, once recognized as the youngest member of the Rajya Sabha, faces a significant setback in his political career. Following his removal as deputy leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), concerns have risen regarding the internal dynamics of the party. Reports indicate that Ashok Mittal from Punjab will assume Chadha’s role.

According to sources, the Rajya Sabha secretariat has been formally notified about this leadership change. The communication also advised that Chadha should not be given speaking time in Parliament. This unfolding situation has prompted speculation about potential divisions within AAP, although Mittal emphasized the need to offer opportunities to all members.

Raghav Chadha was born on November 11, 1988, in New Delhi. He stands out as a prominent figure in Indian politics, addressing a range of critical issues in the Rajya Sabha, including paternity leave and women’s rights. Raised in Delhi, he completed his early education at Modern School before earning a degree from the University of Delhi.

Chadha pursued professional training as a Chartered Accountant at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Furthering his education, he attended the London School of Economics, where he gained valuable international experience. His career began with prestigious firms like Deloitte and Grant Thornton, but his passion for politics became evident early on. His mother encouraged him to maintain his career as a CA while striving for a future in politics.

Without any political lineage, Chadha embarked on his public service journey in 2013 by joining AAP during its nascent stages. His effective communication skills and financial acumen quickly earned him recognition within the party.

As AAP’s youngest national spokesperson, Chadha significantly influenced the party’s victories in various elections. He actively participated in campaigns and aligned himself with AAP’s anti-corruption initiatives, cultivating an image as a clean and educated politician. Notably, he advocated for the rights of gig workers and pushed against the controversial 10-minute delivery model, even spending a day as a delivery executive to better understand the challenges faced by workers.

Recently, Chadha garnered attention for advocating legal provisions for paid paternity leave in India, in addition to championing consumer rights, including proposals for a simplified telecom tariff plan.

In his personal life, Raghav Chadha married actress Parineeti Chopra in September 2023. The couple announced their impending parenthood in August 2025 through a heartfelt social media post, which featured a cake adorned with the equation ‘1+1=3’ and tiny footprints to symbolize their growing family.

As Chadha navigates this turbulent phase in his career, many are left wondering about the implications of his abrupt dismissal and how it will shape his future in Indian politics.
