Ram Charan Describes His Parenting Style as a ‘Tough Love’ Dad

Ram Charan, a prominent figure in Indian cinema best known for his role in RRR, is currently experiencing a joyous chapter in his life as he and his wife, Upasana Kamineni, welcome their twins. The couple celebrated the arrival of their new children on January 31, 2026, at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad, expanding their family to three kids—two daughters and a son. Recently, Ram Charan opened up about his experiences of fatherhood, providing insights into his parenting style and life changes.

In a recent conversation with Esquire, Ram Charan described his approach to parenting, referring to himself as a “rough dad.” He embraces the idea of allowing his children to take risks, encouraging them to explore their environment through play. He affectionately noted the complementary role of his wife, Upasana, calling her the “nurturing pole” of their family. Ram stated, “I’m the rough kind of dad. The one who lets them jump, play dirty, climb, and take risks. Their mother is the nurturing pole; I’m the one they come to when they want courage.”

Reflecting on how fatherhood has transformed his life, the actor expressed a desire to be a present father. He emphasized the importance of making quality use of his time, stating, “It’s not about having time; it’s about how well you are using your time.” Ram shared that becoming a parent shifted his priorities significantly, leading him to strive for a more structured life. He admitted that prior to having children, his schedule revolved around work, but that dynamic has changed. He now aims to be actively engaged with his family, noting, “The minute I come home, I should not act lazy.”

In the same interview, Ram Charan articulated the added responsibilities that come with being a father of three. He acknowledged that his workload has to be balanced with family life, stating, “I have to give my hundred percent. My daughter’s jumping, my wife needs something, there are family issues we have to address.” This commitment requires him to maintain focus and presence in his daily interactions.

Ram Charan and Upasana Kamineni have been married since 2012 and welcomed their first child, daughter Klin, eight years later. The arrival of their twins in early 2026 marked a significant milestone for the couple. In a heartfelt announcement on social media, Ram expressed gratitude for their growing family, stating, “Happy to share that we have been blessed with a baby boy & girl. Having two daughters and a son fills us with immense gratitude.”

Upasana Kamineni, known for her significant role in the Apollo Hospitals group as Vice Chairperson (CSR) and her various other business ventures, is an influential figure in her own right. She is also the granddaughter of the founder of Apollo Hospitals, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy. Reports suggest her net worth falls between Rs. 800 crore and Rs. 1300 crore.

As a father, Ram Charan’s reflections reveal a deep love for his children and a commitment to being present. His candid insights into the challenges and joys of parenting offer a glimpse into his life beyond the silver screen. What are your thoughts on his approach to fatherhood?
