Remembering Gil Gerard’s Fifth Wife Janet Gerard Amid His Passing at 82

Veteran actor Gil Gerard, renowned for his iconic portrayal of ‘Captain William ‘Buck’ Rogers in the sci-fi series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, has sadly passed away at the age of 82. He departed on December 16, 2025, a loss deeply felt by fans of classic television. His wife, Janet Gerard, confirmed the news through an emotional social media post, where she revealed the painful circumstances encompassing his final days and the couple’s close bond.

Janet Gerard, the fifth and final wife of Gil, had shared nearly 18 years with him in a relatively private life outside of Hollywood’s limelight. She expressed her grief in a heartfelt Facebook tribute, labeling him her “soulmate” and the “great love of her life.” Despite being less well-known than her husband, Janet has made her mark as the Owner and Designer at Rayguns & Rust, a creative business respected for its design aesthetics. She typically shunned public appearances, focusing on her work and their family life with one child from Gil’s previous relationships.

The circumstances surrounding Gil Gerard’s passing were troubling for both his family and fans. Reports suggest he succumbed to a rare and aggressive type of cancer after a surprisingly brief battle with the illness. While Janet did not specify the exact cancer type, she indicated that changes in his health occurred swiftly, and he was diagnosed just days before his death.

Fans were taken aback by the suddenness of his decline, particularly since Gil had been open about his prior health struggles, including a battle with obesity. In 2005, he underwent gastric bypass surgery, a journey documented by a special on the Discovery Health Channel.

Born in 1943 in Arkansas, Gil’s rise to fame began with his lead role in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, which aired from 1979 to 1981. His career also spanned over 400 television commercials and roles in popular soap operas like The Doctors, Sidekicks, and E.A.R.T.H. Force. His most recent appearance was in the 2016 film The Nice Guys.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Gil’s personal life garnered attention through his five marriages. One notable relationship was with actress Connie Sellecca, with whom he had a son, Gilbert Vincent “Gib” Gerard, who has since pursued a career in acting and producing. After several relationships and a brief marriage to Bobi Leonard, Gil found enduring companionship with Janet.

As we remember Gil Gerard, we extend our condolences to his family and friends. His contributions to the entertainment industry and the fond memories he created for his audience will not be forgotten.
