Heavy fighting erupted this Sunday morning along the border between Thailand and Cambodia, despite calls from U.S. President Donald Trump for a ceasefire. Both nations have exchanged accusations regarding the initiation of hostilities.
The Cambodian Ministry of Defense, as reported by the “Phnom Penh Post,” has claimed that Thai forces resumed artillery shelling, deploying airstrikes and cluster munitions while targeting historical temples in the region.
Conversely, a military spokesperson from Bangkok stated that it was Cambodia that opened fire in the morning, attacking civilian residences in the Surin border province, according to the Thai newspaper “Khaosod.”
This escalation follows Trump’s recent announcement on the social media platform “Truth Social,” where he stated that the leaders of both countries had agreed to meet urgently and work swiftly toward implementing a ceasefire. He also warned that trade deals would be halted with any side that continues to engage in fighting.
