Saeed Al Tayer: 11 Billion Dirhams Investment by Dubai Electricity to Enhance Infrastructure in 2024

Significant Investments in Dubai’s Infrastructure for 2024

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), announced that the organization has allocated over 11 billion AED towards infrastructure development in Dubai for the year 2024. This investment forms part of a cumulative expenditure that has exceeded 225 billion AED over the years, as revealed in DEWA’s 2024 sustainability report.

Reliability and Performance Insights

Al Tayer highlighted the reliability of DEWA’s network, supported by global key performance indicators. The electricity transmission and distribution loss rate stands at 2%, while the water loss rate is at 4.5%. Furthermore, the average minutes lost per customer (CML) is less than one minute annually for each customer. He attributed these notable achievements to the authority’s investments in artificial intelligence, smart grids, and digitization.

Global Recognition and Financial Highlights for 2024

Additionally, Al Tayer mentioned that DEWA secured the top position globally in 12 key performance indicators within the utility sector. He emphasized that 2024 was a remarkable year for the authority in terms of efficiency, sustainability, and financial outcomes, with revenues exceeding 30 billion AED for the first time. Operating profits reached 9.3 billion AED, reflecting a steady increase in demand for the authority’s services, indicative of Dubai’s robust growth.

Growing Customer Base and Energy Production

The number of electricity and water accounts surpassed 1.27 million, marking an increase of approximately 5% compared to 2023. DEWA generated 59.19 terawatt-hours of energy last year, compared to 56.14 terawatt-hours in 2023, amounting to a growth of 5.42%.

Focus on Clean Energy

In terms of renewable energy, DEWA produced 6.62 terawatt-hours last year, representing a 7.47% increase from 2023. Clean energy constituted 11.2% of the total energy generated by DEWA in the previous year.

DEWA has established a comprehensive regulatory framework for licensing the development and operation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The authority has achieved numerous global accolades over the past year and remains committed to utilizing clean energy to maintain a sustainable energy mix that meets the increasing demand.
