His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, the Speaker of the Federal National Council, met with Mircea Abrudean, the President of the Senate of Romania, during the International Parliamentary Conference celebrating the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Constitution.
Saqr Ghobash emphasized the strong bilateral relations between the United Arab Emirates and Romania, highlighting the deep bonds that connect the two countries based on mutual respect, cooperative spirit, and a shared desire to enhance strategic partnerships across various fields.
He praised the progress in UAE-Romanian relations on political and economic fronts, referencing high-level reciprocal visits, notably the official visit by the former Prime Minister of Romania to the UAE in April 2024, which opened new avenues for collaboration in energy, investment, innovation, and food security.
The Speaker expressed the Federal National Council’s commitment to developing parliamentary dialogue and coordination between the two nations, focusing on the role of parliamentary diplomacy as a cornerstone for supporting bilateral relations. He suggested exploring new mechanisms to broaden cooperation, particularly through the UAE-Romania Parliamentary Friendship Committee, which will feature regular work programs and visits.
He underscored the significance of collaboration between both councils at the European Parliament level, given Romania’s active representation within its institutions, which will enhance UAE-European relations. He also discussed expanding future cooperation in renewable energy, green hydrogen, food security, advanced technology, maritime transport, and artificial intelligence, welcoming the launch of the UAE-Romanian Business Council as a platform for private sector collaboration.
Meeting
In another meeting, Saqr Ghobash engaged with Sadiq Sanjrani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, where both sides reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical ties between the UAE and Pakistan, tracing back to the era of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. They acknowledged the ongoing development of these ties, built on mutual respect and understanding.
During the meeting, attended by Dr. Tariq Hamid Al-Tayer, First Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council, both parties lauded the outstanding and growing parliamentary relations between the Federal National Council and the Pakistani Parliament, including both the National Assembly and the Senate. They asserted that this collaboration significantly contributes to strengthening their relationships.
